Engaging
the Mind
Scientists
are discovering that stimulation of the mind through memorization
and critical thinking methods enhances brain function and
delays or prevents deterioration characterized by forgetfulness
or memory loss and Alzheimer's Disease.
Contented
Mind,
Ways of Learning
At Dr
Arlene Taylor's website you will find rich resource
information on brain function and learning patterns to
help you understand how you learn and relate to other
people. A brief article from her follows:
"The
brain and the body are one. That's nothing new, you say.
Actually it is a relatively new concept in some Western
cultures. Studies have shown that there is a continual
flow of biochemical information among all the cells in
both the brain and the body. Research by Dr. Candace Pert
(discoverer of the opiate receptor) has led her to assert
that the body is the subconscious mind. Whatever goes
on in the brain is acted out in the physical body. She
coined the term bodymind to describe this unified
communication and collaboration.
A plethora
of research is available to help you design your own journey
toward a contented bodymind. You might begin by exploring
specific behaviors that have been shown to alter the psychosomatic
network and positively impact the brain and body including
affirmation, meditation, and visualization. Other strategies
to consider encompass optimum nutrition, anti-aging exercises,
relaxation techniques, identification of your own innate
giftedness, grief recovery, and personal growth.
In terms
of health and high-level-wellness living, what is good
for the brain is good for the body's immune system, and
vice versa. A contented bodymind can help move you from
surviving to thriving. The sky's the limit! "
